In the counterculture of my youth, I wasn't against the culture; I was against the Vietnam War. Specifically, my compatriots and I were against the Military Draft Lottery. None of us wanted our birthdates pulled out of that lottery drum to win a free trip, gun, and uniform to go to Vietnam.

We liked the culture of Nebraskans and South Dakotans. It was live and let live. Guns and ammo were easy to buy. Driver's licenses were sold at the local hardware store. People were honest and kind.

As for "licentiousness", well, the hippie chicks decided who had that. We just wanted to smoke some dope, listen to music, and make enough money to get by. We didn't want our dads' 9-5 job regimen. It killed them. We saw their lives as we grew up. No thanks.

Terry Thomas was right. The American wives sit under hair dryers reading magazines and eating bon bons, while their husbands work themselves to death and die of thrombosis.

I'm with Amanda. Anarchy is the way. Well, that and another pint.
